Our Team
I’m Mary Crutchfield, a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and the founder of Leva Psychiatry. My mission is to assist, motivate and empower clients through psychiatric therapy, medication management, and coordination with other professionals on a journey to an authentically inspired life. I believe in the value of a genuine understanding of mental health, a confidential place to self-explore, and a healthy patient-provider relationship that is trustworthy, cooperative and supportive.
Settling in Virginia Beach
My introduction to the complexity of the human experience arose out of my exposure to different cultures as a child of two missionaries who traveled and relocated multiple times in other continents. Finally, I landed as a young adult here in Virginia Beach, VA. The many formative years I spent abroad continued to inspire careful reflection and lead me to develop my understanding of mental health in my own practice.
My Philosophy of Practice
My unique life experiences add a layer of understanding to my academic foundation and will forever shape how I provide service to humanity. I do not treat my clients as a number nor as a diagnosis alone. I seek to treat the human condition as a whole, keeping my consideration of the diversity and nuance of the social world, the context of life, love, relationships, and individual circumstances always in the foreground of my approach.
My Philosophy
I believe mental health should be made a top priority and it’s important to work collaboratively with the individual to customize treatment modalities. I am committed to staying up to date with the latest treatments and enjoy the science of psychiatry and psychopharmacology.
I am a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner AND a Family Nurse Practitioner. This means I have a medical background in family practice, can treat all ages and am very comprehensive in addition to my psychiatric training and experience. I am passionate about my mission to provide client-centered mental health care that is holistic, empathetic, and caring.
I treat children, adolescents and adults specifically with anxiety, panic, depression, mood and personality disorders, ADHD, insomnia, anger, behavioral issues, grief, trauma, and eating disorders. I form a collaborative environment with therapists and other providers where we work as a team to address your needs.
My Philosophy
My philosophy of practice centers on a caring and collaborative relationship where we work as a team to address issues that are preventing you from living life fully. My goal is to create a trusting, supportive and compassionate environment that supports positive change and growth. I am dedicated to providing patient-centered mental health care by using the best evidence-based practices. I aim to help educate clients and the community on mental illness and to decrease the stigma of mental illness treatment.
